Match Fit Academy Families,
We know that you all are balancing a lot right now. Being a parent, working mom/dad, and teacher is a lot to manage, and soccer is not the most important thing in our lives. But we hope that your kids are finding a good distraction and staying active while balancing schoolwork and homelife. By now, you will have received your first weekly training at home program with resources to help keep your kids engaged, motivated, and active to the extent you are able (please be sure to join your age group google classroom if you have not done so already). We hope that “soccer coach” becomes a welcomed role and a fun distraction for the whole family.
We continue to monitor the developments and impact of COVID-19. With the latest announcement by Governor Murphy announcing school closures through April 20th and new “stay-at-home” orders happening across our service area through to April 30th , we anticipate that our April 20th restart will likely be pushed back. Our executive staff is working on multiple contingency plans, so we are ready in all scenarios. The continued plan is to have a season of soccer with any delayed start.
Our intent is to get back on the fields as soon as we are safely able and offer valuable programming to all our players. For the programs that we manage in-house our plan is to extend the season. Depending on when we start, this could take us into the early part of summer. For league play, we are still waiting on a definitive answer from governing bodies including NJYSA, US Club Soccer, and US Soccer, which will impact and set the direction for what we do. As soon as decisions are made, we will act accordingly. The Match Fit Academy Executive are committed to ensuring the viability of our club and our members, and we remain optimistic that a delayed start and/or alternative programming will provide the value that you are expecting with your MFAFC experience. Virtually all of our league partners have told us they are intent on completing their spring seasons, even though that might mean playing league games into July. We believe until a return-to-play date is established, and leagues agree on what will happen with the spring season, all discussions remain premature.
As our staff works diligently and creatively to foreshadow various scenarios, no firm decisions have been made at this time of exactly how the season will unfold, as it is still too early to know what will transpire these next few weeks. We are considering all options to continue to run an organization that meets the needs of our community for the short and long-term, without sacrificing all that we have accomplished over the last 20 years serving the youth soccer community.
We appreciate your continued patience and understanding during this time. We hope that you all stay healthy, and we will be in touch soon with updates as more concrete decisions are made.
